About the event
CSA in NYC - A Model for Greater Connection: Farmers and community members in NYC have spent decades honing and evolving a model that allows farmers to more easily distribute shares and community members to create greater connection and accessibility. Join Farm Generations Cooperative / GrownBy and East Williamsburg CSA to discuss insights from a survey of farmers and community members. We'll discuss how this model could (and should!) be adapted to support farmers and increase engagement in other geographical areas.
Cara Fraver has worked on CSA from so many angles since 2005, as a farmer support and sales manager at GrownBy, as the co-owner and operator of a four-season diversified vegetable farm in New York, and as the Business Services Director at the National Young Farmers Coalition. Cara has worked on CSA farms in addition to her own and long, long ago was on NYC CSA core groups.
Jenna Harris has been a member of the East Williamsburg CSA since 2012 and a Core Group member since 2019. She is passionate about supporting local growers and providing New Yorkers with access to great food. In her full time role, Jenna works on the Supply Chain New York team at City Harvest, helping to rescue and deliver more than 81 million pounds of food to hungry New Yorkers this year.
